Skilled Migrant Category Resident Visa

If you are under 55 and have a skill that is not adequately available in New Zealand, you can apply for this visa through the Expression of Interest (EOI). You will be assessed against the point test criteria including your age, qualification, skilled work experience and if your partner’s qualification ( if any). You are supposed to speak English reasonably well.

This visa allows you to:

  • Live, work and study in New Zealand.
  • include your partner, and dependent children aged 24 and under, in your residence application.

In order to qualify for this visa, the applicant should be able to able to score 160 points. (Make sure that you do not over estimate your points which you cannot reverse later)

Long Term Skill Shortage List Work Visa

If you have an employment offer for a skill available in the Long Term Skill Shortage List and if you are under the age of 55, you can apply for this visa. Your employment offer should be valid for minimum of 24-months.

This is the best pathway visa for the New Zealand permanent residence after completion of 2-years of work in New Zealand.

Essential Skills Work Visa

If your occupation is available on the Essential Skills List and you must have a full-time job offer. You must have the necessary skills and experience to work in your occupation, as listed in the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO). In some cases work experience can substitute the qualification requirements. The visa can be valid for up to 5-years depending on the job offer you have received. If it is required to work in your occupation in New Zealand, you must have New Zealand registration.

Your employer must provide the evidence that he made a reasonable attempt to recruit a New Zealander for the position unless exceptional circumstances apply.

Silver Fern Job Search Work Visa

This is the visa for the skilled young people to enter New Zealand to explore their employment prospects in New Zealand. This 9-months visa can be extended for 2-years if you are seeking long-term employment.

If you meet the other requirements under the Skill Migrant Residence visa, this is also a pathway for Permanent Residence. This visa is open for application in November and the number of places available is subject to a quota which is usually supplied within the same day.

Post Study Work Visa

The international students who have completed an acceptable qualification in New Zealand are eligible for this visa. The application should be made within 3-months of the completion of your studies.

This visa allows you to work for any employer in any area for 12-months and can be extended for further 2-years with the assistance of your employer. Your employment can be counted towards ‘Skilled Experience’ in New Zealand for the Skill Migrant point test.
